Confused what to do after getting the fire shield spell

I've been wandering in the fire dimension for what seems like forever. I am completely lost on where to go.

In the fire dimension, The Fire Shield spell will let you get to two places.

One of the places looks like stepping stones on the map, but there's lava between them. It's accessable from the landmass where the portals are. Use fire shield so you can walk over the lava without taking damage. This pathway will lead you into a cave thingy that lets you pick up a zombie arm you'll need for later.

The other place is (I THINK, memory a touch fuzzy) south or south west of that. On the map it's kind of a path going down and right, with a wall halfway through it near the bottom. Don't know how to describe better. But if you get there (also by using fire shield to cross lava from near the portal place, but more southerly iirc) you can follow this path to find two things, one is half of the poem, the other thing is a portal back to the... wind plane I think, which lets you progress that area.
