Since this work could not get such a high evaluation in Japan, the momentum to prepare such things officially has withered, and there is only a simple summary article by volunteers.
(However, even after being abandoned, I have continued to improve voluntarily at my own expense in order to overturn such evaluations, and I have confidence in this work.)
If the number of enthusiastic fans overseas increases, we may be able to turn things around, so please continue to support us. Please help spread the passion!
Thank you!
I want to increase the number of fans of this game like you.
By the way, I'm currently working on an additional dungeon DLC. (I think it will be available in the near future.)
I'm buying the game today, after having read several reviews and watched some gameplay. The game seems to be perfect for fans of original wizardry. I think I will like the gameplay of this game this even more than Etrian Odyssey. My first wizardry was Wizardry 1 on a Macintosh 128K in the 80s.
Thank you!
In this work, I reconstructed the system with the theme of "What happens if Wizardry(-like) is rebooted from scratch in a modern environment?"
My direct mentors were the creators of the NES version of Wizardry, and they did it on the NES 30 years ago. And I challenged it again this time.
Game designers of JRPGs and dungeon crawlers like to make things complicated. However, I thought that they might be one of the reasons why people around the world avoid them.
I intentionally made it simple by focusing on the basic gameplay of Dungeon Crawler so that the world could rediscover the fun of Dungeon Crawler (however, this lowered the reputation of this work in Japan).
Also, since this work makes internal calculations based on the concept of modern d20 system TRPG, those who like D&D and Pathfinder may intuitively understand.
(In Japan, D&D and Pathfinder are not so popular)
I hope you enjoy Zangetsu.
Problems seem to occur in non-English OS environments and the latest high-end gaming environments.
I apologize if you have encountered any problems.
How much content to beat the game can I expect by the way ? I would be happy to hear more about that ?
Thanks !
Thank you! There are physical versions for PS4 and Switch. (I don't have one yet, so I'd like to have the North American and European physical versions.)
In Japan, the game was initially released with some balance and playability issues due to decisions made by a publisher that I couldn't oppose. As a result, the game's reputation took a significant hit. Afterwards, I voluntarily updated the game to address those issues while working on multi-language support, and most of them have been improved (the Steam version has been updated even further). The evaluations from users who played the game after the updates have been generally positive, but the negative reviews on Amazon are from the time when the old version was distributed.
Some Japanese users can be sensitive and tend to write low-rating reviews if they find even a slight flaw in the game, which has been quite exhausting for me. Your comments here have been very reassuring to me. Thank you!
One minor thing you could improve in my opinion, even if it may be something not so big for most players, I think the music in your game are really good and fit the atmosphere perfectly, it’s just too bad that they loop from the start each time you finish a battle or talk with a PNJ on the overworld. Some other Dungeon RPG or games has the same problem as this, but I think for a game with such a nice atmosphere and hard work on the atmosphere department, it would make the game even better in my opinion !
Other than this, would it be possible to let me know around how many hour of content I can expect from the game for a playthrough ?
Thanks !
Thank you!
I promise to polish the points you pointed out.
Sorry,
As for the main story, if you watch it for the first time, it will probably take about 20 hours until the ending. (My wife took 40 hours)
I set it at this size assuming repeated play.
The DLC currently in production will add 10 to 20 hours to this volume.
All songs were composed by EGUCHI Takahiro, a young composer who belongs to Super Sweep.
He usually composes songs for music games, and is unknown in RPGs. However, by playing Zangetsu, you will find that he has a talent that can rival even the legends.
A soundtrack is also being produced by Sweep Records, so please pay attention to that as well.
Honestly I feel your D Rpg settings is really refreshing and inspired for the genre. If you do a Zangetsu 2 ´, even more polished and so on, I would be more than happy to get the game. I will definitively look out for the dlc, Hope it’s coming along soon !
Yeah, if the sound department could improve on this, it could be great. Indeed the compositor look really nice and the music are great to hear in the game !
Then, seeing a director from a game so easy to get in touch with and have good discussion about the game makes me think I did the best choice by buying the game !
Thanks a lot again !
Thanks !
