Question about the different online coop modes

Hello,

I was looking to buy myself and my wife a copy of this game (since there is no split screen in the PC version apparently).
We don't want to play against other people from the start.
So I was wondering, are there modes that allow us to play together online / co op against different level of bots?

The page description doesn't mention whether you can play those modes against bots or only versus people.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the text.

Yep. In the Backyard Battleground, in the zombie and plant bases there's a multiplayer portal. It has options like solo play against bots or private play with your friends against bots. You can also turn up the difficulty of playing against bots too.
