worth it?
Is it worth it? Did the game have active servers before the steam release, or is this just a short burst of popularity?

the game had maybe 40-60 players on during peak hours in multiplayer before hand
you could find one maybe two games of turf on europe servers
before the steam release, the player base really tanked after EA announced
they would stop updating the game like 2 ish years ago
as they were working on "pvz battle for neighborville"
that game flopped hard as it just wasn't what the community wanted
GW2 is still easily the most preferred generally by the community
and is probably why they are releasing this on steam to see if there is still interest
in the series, so yes right now it's a burst due to steam release

however, the discords/community for this game was pretty large and active
especially the singleplayer modding scene (frosty editor)
hundreds of people still played against AI with mods
(there's thousands of mods for this game)

alot of them wanted a steam release so they could go back to playing
multiplayer, and as such right now most of them have returned
time will only tell if the player base sticks around
it is on sale for 10$ and is imo worth it
i have over 400 hours on origin, been playing since around 2017
and have had a blast even fighting against the Bots with mods
even if the player base does die out, it's still alot of fun to vs bots
they are actually fairly competent and there are mods to vastly improve
their AI to feel very similar to multiplayer.

i would buy it while it's on sale just for that alone
but with how active the discord/community scene is right now
i'm gonna assume the player base will stick around for a decent amount of time
tbh EA might even start updating the game again if the player base stays high enough
or make a proper GW3

they just updated the servers today to accommodate the massive influx of players.

Thanks for the detailed response, I think I'll probably get it in the next couple days.
