Possible glitch: My save file disappeared?

I'm adoring the game. I took a break after finishing Act 1 and closed the game, I didn't see anything to manually save so I figured it's all auto-saves (I did clock the laurel wreath in the top left corner appearing now and then). When I launched the game later, I couldn't see the option to continue, so I clicked the Load poster and nothing in my Slot 1 there.

To test it out, I quickly started a new game and selected Slot 2. Exited the game, reloaded, gave me the option to continue from that new file I made.

I don't mind redoing Act 1, but just wanted to mention this happened in case there's an issue here or something goofed on my end.

Hello everyone!

We appreciate the patience you've given us as we've been investigating this save issue. We believe we have found the cause, and we're here today with a hotfix that we believe will resolve the save issues you've been experiencing.

At present, we believe the issue came up due to the way in which the game was handling initial save files - that is, demo save files had the potential to cause issues with players games if they had them, including crashes. To prevent this, the system is taught to wipe these initial saves to ensure you don't encounter crashes and an unplayable game. However, the way in which the system detects these saves made an error, causing it to identify your first new saves as potential demo saves.

This also accounts for why players do not and have not (at least from our reports) encountered the issue again. We've made adjustments to how the system checks these files and are pushing this build now.

You should take care not to load any saves from your demo playthrough as it will likely cause issues. Overwriting those saves with new games will ensure everything runs smoothly.

If you encounter any further issues, please do continue to submit via our bug report form.

Lost my save too :/ ... Created also bug report as requested, it seems to not be that uncommon issue sadly from what Im reading here, thats not good ... hopefully they will fix it soon

PS: I think I was asked consent on my first run, its probably not releated but who knows

I just want to add that it's not just PC. I have the game on my PS5 and I just got past the Medusa part and the game crashed on me. Then, when it reopened, I lost all save data. Now I'm back to the very beginning.

This just happened to me too. Thanks for the tip on the skip dialog button. At least the songs are good and if I turn on the pause for choices I can just alt tab for a bit. Still had to redo 2 acts though.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it, but it's odd that your save file disappeared! Can you submit this via our bug report link here[6k8iky9gz49.typeform.com] so we can investigate when the team is on site? Additionally, in the interim - you can back up your save files by going to your local install folder, opening the Saved > SavedGames folders, and copying all files inside to an additional folder or location. Inserting these back into the folder should reload them as save options on relaunch.

I tested using save slot 2 to start another run after losing my first playthrough. I played for about 10-15 minutes, then exited to the main menu. I went right back into the game and the save worked. I promptly exited to the main menu and then exited all the way to my desktop. I loaded the game back up and the continue worked. The save slot 2 seems to be fine to utilize until the bug is patched.

Great game and no bug, imo will change that.

Hi everyone,

Firstly, thank you for your support and celebration on the release of Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. We are so grateful to see you enjoying the game!

We've had a few bug reports, but our biggest focus has been those of you affected by issues with save files and progression loss. As avid choice-based narrative fans ourselves, we know how frustrating this can be to lose your progress.

We're getting closer to a fix that should resolve this for players who are booting the game for the first time. Our team are going to be working this weekend to resolve it for you. At this stage, this bug only seems to be affecting players' initial save file - that is your first created save, regardless of save slot. No one has encountered the issue after this point that we know of when they start a second save. If you have, please let us know via the support form below.

In the interim, we ask that any player launching the game for the first time do the following steps:

1. Launch the game
2. Agree or Decline Gamesight's prompt
3. Exit the game using 'Exit Game'
4. Relaunch the game

If you'd like to be extra cautious, you can play the first scene until you see the save logo in the top left corner, then exit using 'Exit Game'. While we can't guarantee this will stop every issue from occurring with progression and saves, this should allow you to start a new game with no save file issues.

We are so grateful for your patience. As a small team in a sometimes challenging timezone, every bit of kindness and Grace (we had to) is appreciated. Your reports allow us to investigate these issues swiftly and effectively, and we know it takes time and energy to submit them.

Bug report submitted. So, where I am, I've taken my save data (a single file called SaveGame.sav, last updated close to the time it seemingly got wiped) and made a copy of it in a folder on my desktop - so, it is now in two locations, the save folder and my backup folder. If anyone has been able to do anything past this point to resolve this issue, I would appreciate it if you shared it with me.

Once this bug gets patched out, what are the chances that my save data can be recovered? 3.3 hours, for me, is a lot of play time to recover, and I don't know how much I can replicate if I must start back from square one.

It happened to me too. Hugely disappointing. :( I was hoping to finish the game this weekend before I leave for holidays, but I don't have a 6+ hour window to do it in one go - and I'm not starting another save until I'm 100% sure this issue is fixed and I won't lose my progress again.

Guess it's back to BG3 for now.

I just found out the the save is in the folder it is supposed to be however it's somehow invisible to the game (?)

Starting a new game in Slot Two enables the saved games to remain. It won't bring back lost saves, but it works for ma new game. I can confirm this workaround does work...

Yeah, even backing up the save and putting it back (and making it read only so the game doesn't auto delete it on startup..) still doesn't work.
It's so baffling and absurd to me. Out of pure curiosity I wouldn't mind the devs explaining to us why this was happening once they push a fix out and get it working.

You'd think save in save folder would = being able to load it up
