I've seen at least two of the singers in the cast live on Broadway. One in RENT (Anthony Rapp) and one in Once on this Island (Merle Dandridge). Musicals are very diverse now, which is what someone who is a fan of musical theatre would know... not every production has a big, grandeur sense of "EPICness" -- you have everything from off-Broadway minimalist musical scores to things like Phantom of the Opera, Cabaret, or Les Miserables. Some of my most profound live musical theatre moments were at off-Broadway shows that had what some would consider "pedestrian" scores, but the stories were gripping, and the experiences were incredible nonetheless. I used to go to NYC a lot and would go see ten Broadway / off-Broadway shows a month. I'd wager that I've seen 200 shows at this point, many of which are repeats, but I digress. I've seen everything from small off-Broadway productions being put on in tiny shoebox theatres to very opulent and extravagant shows that have intricate musical numbers, lavish sets, and sweeping orchestral numbers. If I'm not jaded, then I highly doubt most people would take issue.

True, but the opposite might also hold.

As in, while you're a musical theatre fanatic and have breadth and scope to appreciate the efforts of everyone involved, most people coming in might only have the big mainstream Hamilton-like spectacles to measure up against...

Which are just really big shoes to fill for a small Australian outfit.

Time will tell, but I've got my fingers crossed for a positive reception here.

well I'm actually DEAF but I can hear partially
I just watched both trailers and it sounded way off-putting, heavily cringy for moments, even. Which is sad, because the premise was nice.

I didn't like what I heard in the trailer.

If it was Death Metal and I was playing bad dude ripping everyone's head off as I sang. Then HELL YES!! Instant buy from me. That's a Role Playing musical I can get behind. This though? Eh, no buy for me.
