Yes, fire rate (or any other DPS-increasing stat) is pretty important, and movement speed is important up to a point (it's good to avoid damage and picking up power ups, but you can't win on it alone).
Is it generally better to keep revisiting the first to power up?
Does this game have a "grand finale" or "ending"?
You should try different stages, difficulty levels & curses. Depending on the total number of skulls
I would also advise you to take a closer look at the archivments to see what is unlocked with what. For example, it is worth selecting each weapon at least once & maximizing it, I think that's 500 gold per weapon via archivments.
if you want an easy time, try unlocking:
- character Ker (ranger bow)
- trinket: silver bullets
- trinket: forbidden sword
- trinket: leather bracer (i think thats a starter item)
her bow is weird early on n requieres alot positioning,
but once upgraded its utterly insane.^^ (espec with these trikets)
