It might just be my intuition and game sense using the wrong controls.
The game hangs when changing paints.
I didn't anticipate a gun range in the demo, but it was a pleasant surprise. The shooting range feels like an afterthought after seeing the attention to detail of the repairing. It doesn't feel very fluid, and could use some TLC. I am seeing a floating gun at the ready and then it slides into center to aim, which is fine, but it'd be nice to have hands visible. I would suggest allowing a rifle to be in a lead sling/sled (maybe add zeroing/scope install instead of just slapping it on).
You have values and strings as plain text (or no text at all) in the shooting range, specifically the shotgun section.
Some of the shotgun shooting modes do not function (using "stop shooting" resets it thankfully).
The attention to detail overall so far is much appreciated and I look forward to more.
The demo expects the average person to understand that there are parts inside the m1911 (of which the demo does not show a full disassembly) that are paint-able but can only be seen if the cursor is in a specific location, which is hard as a dev to show, i get it, but it's worth mentioning. Painting the gun disassembled makes more sense than fully assembled if you're going to allow painting of internals. It would be easier to have the ability to cycle through parts with an assembled preview if internals are allowed to be painted, part depending.
The step-by-step process of bluing was a nice touch, and the same for sand-blasting.
I thought the selection of paint colors & patterns was okay, but there's always room to add more.
The beginning of the tutorial when it showed locations, in my opinion, didn't touch on everything, so when I was instructed to go do something I was looking around for the icon instead of knowing where it was, but this is a minor thing.
Another suggestion is allowing the player to use the money they make from being a gunsmith to have their own collection they can fool around with in-between jobs & hanging them on a wall or in a rack or even safe. The tutorial mentioned auctions but didn't show anything about it in the tutorial itself, but that's fine.
Holding left click on bolts and pins is fine, but the camera needs to reset (either zoomed out or focused on the last place it looked) because the camera during assembly/disassembly sitting where it was last forced was tiring to have to readjust with so many parts.
The highlighting was nice & helped, but to the average person it feels a lot at once, to see a list of parts they may not be familiar with, which is why the highlighting is a good choice.
It would allow the uninitiated to not feel so bogged down if it was a more spoon fed process than the entirety at once, looking for internals they don't know is there.
Essentially, what I'm getting at is asking the player when they start what firearms theyre familiar with and how far along they are at gunsmithing (think of it like a difficulty setting) so you don't have someone who knows nothing wondering how they were supposed to know about parts they cant see.
My suggestion would be to reach out to firearm companies/online retailers for branding/financial support to showcase their wares, if you want, that is.
When I was told to go back to the car after I was done shooting, I was hoping to see the rewards of my labor, but instead, was booted back to the main menu with less money than I had started with and zero feedback from the tutorial customers, so that was disappointing, but left me wanting more.
I hope this game doesn't nickle-and-dime me with a bunch of DLC, putting popular firearms behind a monetary paywall, but I expect that will happen, considering it comes with the territory.
EDIT: the camera should force to screws/pins/ect to show them for removal/insertion instead of being able to do it blindly through the part.
- Happen the first tutorial
- Search gun part on PC at Japanese
- Change other scene If input word
The camera could use a little work when using stations/workbenches.
It'd also be really nice to toggle a top-down view at the disassembly station, I feel like it'd make things a bit easier by giving you a better view of the firearms and disassembled parts. (Especially when reassembling)
Issues
The only issue I had, was that the scope on the AK dropped my frames significantly when equipped, to around 15fps, compared to a steady 60fps (vsync) when using the handgun and shotgun.
2. Mouse sens feels weird. It feels like it is always changing for no reason.
3. Mouse sens IS faster if you are looking into a Blue Highlighted object from the tutorial and goes back to normal if you don't look at it.
4. Gas at oxidation place is named "Worksapce/Bluing_Request_Gas".
5. Shooting range result names are the same as the gas tank above. (SHOOTINGRANGE/INFO_SHOOTING_RANGE_......)
6. FPS Drops to 50 when using the AK-47.
1. Recoil seems way to low for a full auto AK-47. Same for the M1911 and the Winchester.
2. Bullet drop feels weird. Maybe add a visible bullet so we can see where the bullet is landing. Bullet tracers are also an option.
3. Ironsights can be improved.
4. Gun table could use some adjustments, the angle is weird. Maybe a top vision angle?
5. Ability to rotate parts and weapons with A-W-S-D.
All in all the game is fun, the details in the guns are perfect, just the camera when interacting with the disassembly table is... strange to use (?), I mean it just feels off with the controls, the movement was ok (though the sprint might be a little too slow in the shooting range), and I don't know why but when I was shooting with the AK47 at the targets the bullet hit them not where I was aiming, but a little bit higher or lower.
Would be nice to be able to select a parent part (when applicable) and then assemble the parts to it before adding it to the receiver, While doing so the camera resetting focus on the parent part (for example being the ak's trigger group, bolt assembly, stock and recoil spring.)
Instead of the camera being reset (still zoomed in) after each part has been added, Having to zoom out and move the camera back to the part you were working on.
Also being able to change the button for exiting out of the table to something other than right click would be nice, I kept accidentally exiting out.
Perhaps a nice feature would be the ability to flip a gun with a single button,
For example when unscrewing the pistol grips on the colt just flip the gun and unscrew the grip on the other side.
Overall i really enjoyed this demo and can't wait to see what you guys have in store for us in the future.
I do have a question, Pretty sure i read on the store page description in the early stages (long time ago) that you would be able to run the workshop together with a friend(s)??
Is that something you guys still are considering? because that would be awesome!
At this point of development, I wouldn't recommend this to a friend tbh.
