On that first screen, if I press Z it proceeds to the next one, but the controller doesn't "kick in" at that screen. My only option is to press Z again, and it brings me the game.
On that point, the only controller button that works is the select button (which brings the options menus), but nothing else works, outside of the keyboard keys.
On the controller menu, it shows the Xbox One prompts, and what each button is tied to, but none of it actually works.
Why in the hell does it launch by loading a keyboard + mouse profile, after detecting... a controller?
CITY CONNECTION really needs to start improving these messy launches.
I really don't get it. I had no problem with my controller on previous releases, but I have with this one.
With each new release, instead of improving and fixing things, CITY CONNECTION manages to release games with new, basic problems that weren't there for previous releases.
Disappointing.
It is a mess, I agree.
The game could have launched straight to the menu screen. There's no reason to start with a static logo screen and then go to the controls screen and then go to a (basic) menu screen.
I also use an Xbox One controller, but I use mine wired. Maybe that makes a difference?
Mine is also wired.
Anyways, the program by default utilizes Steam's Controller Config tool. The first time I booted it up I realized that and for some weird reason it pulled Steam's stock controller configuration that mimics FPS keyboard inputs (WASD, etc.), so I had to go back into Steam and change that to the actual controller's stock config (I am using an X360 wireless controller).
After that point I realized the same thing you guys did which was having to press "Z" on the keyboard to get past the initial S-Tribute screen and load the actual game, so I just edited the controller config file in Steam so that a "long press" of the start button entered "Z". After that I didn't need the keyboard to start the game anymore.
Also, if you don't mind having to actually press "Z" at that initial screen and you are using an X-Input controller you can actually just disable the Steam Controller Config entirely for this game if you want and it will still run fine.
After figuring that all out the emulation actually runs pretty well.
Edit: In case anyone isn't used to toying around and adding activators within Steam's Controller Config I shared my controller profile for this game with Xbox controllers. Feel free to import it if you just want to be able to get past the title screen without a keyboard.
