I bought this game on sight so first of all, I'm very grateful that this works on Linux/Proton unlike 'Cotton Reboot!' which still inexplicably does not. Of course I already had access to all the MAME library but I have a deep respect for Taito games in particular - I still want a Steam version of NewZealand Story.

Anyway. Here's my problems after a few seconds' play:

1 - No 4:3 resolution option? I have the monitor right here and everything

2 - intro crawl seems to be running much faster than it should for a normal reading pace, even with VSync on.

3 - I've literally only got about three kills into a game before writing this but if you could please fix these, please do. And also fix Cotton Reboot for the ♥♥♥♥ of bloody Jove

Also. Somehow the left stick input seems to not work at all, and furthermore seems to have broken the Steam Input configuration thing so that it can't be changed. I've tried setting the left stick to Direction Pad but as soon as the game starts it just completely overrides it. Makes the game kind of unplayable on a Steam controller as it is

Same Problem with wired XBOX ONE Controller.

Not as low as MAME with Run-Ahead but still very playable.

Also, who on Earth would actually want to play this with the left analog stick? I get it's annoying to not be able to use it in the menus, but it's practically a necessity to play this on either D-pad, a good arcade lever, or keyboard if you're serious about getting far on one credit.

I would, because I like the Steam Controller but the left trackpad sucks as a D-Pad. And this is Steam.

[secret[ Of course I can still play the FinalBurnNeo Arcade ROM through Retroarch, and have the gamepad and graphics and audio filters enabled and working for nothing. So there's also that. I do have to question what the point is of porting just the Sega Saturn version? The arcade had some cool little flourishes that seem to be missing here. I mean the pilot/grid/blueprint-into-ship and all that[/secret]

Ha, no, although that would be impressive. Just for this game. No matter how I try to redefine the left joystick It instantly reverts back to their predefined 'Alt D-Pad' that refuses to work when I try it in the game

Sorry for bumping this thread, but did you ever manage to find a solution for this?

Sadly, on my Xbox One controller, the same thing happens. I can only used the D-Pad (unlike pretty much all other titles City Connection released here on Steam).
I kept expecting a patch to fix this, but after a couple of months, I'm starting to suspect one isn't coming.

I actually did, and embarrassingly it turned it to be something that was my fault. I had my controllers 'Desktop Configuration' set up as something other than the standard Keyboard/Mouse so that it would work with Cyberpunk 2077 (I think) as a workaround for that not detecting controllers properly, and for a while I'd noticed the Steam button wasn't bringing up the configuration menu any more, but I put that down to using Linux and/or it being some kind of temporary bug.

As soon as changed my Desktop controller setting to the standard recommended one it magically made everything work again.

I'll try to see if I have a similar problem on my end.

I never messed with the controller settings at all, but I'll see if any changes will give me the use of the analogue stick for this game (while crossing my fingers it won't mess any other title ).

UPDATE: Well, I'm still unable to use anything other than the D-Pad. I just can't get the analogue stick to work, no matter the settings in-game, or on the Steam controller config options.

It's the only title from City Connection where this is happening.

If anyone has any other suggestions, do let me know.

Same here- D-pad only on Xbox One controller, stick doesn't work. This really should be fixed, and an easy one at that.
