PC is a customizable platform, I assume you have heard of USB ports correct? You can plug in a racing wheel, HOTAS, controller, headsets, anything really.
PC is NOT just mouse and keyboard. Anyone who says so is what we call ignorant.
And one size does not fit all. Some prefer controller in FPS and some don't. Do what works for you.

Now for actual suggestions for controller support ingame. Use Steam input. Best option at the moment though I have a lot I hate about that system, mainly unreliability and bugs.
