I wanted it to succeed as well, and I'll keep it because individual matches can be semi entertaining, but the reality is that it's a truly awful game.
I really hope Yukes keep updating the game beyond just DLC and cosmetics.
Once, Sammy Guevara of all people kicked out of one finisher. Now at least i know that it can happen in a normal match.
I'd say it needs some work on breaking out of pins and how long you're on the ground (this affected AI a lot too), but other than that it's got the same strike/grapple aggressive gameplay of the good games. What exactly is the problem?
Even on the easy difficulty, they start to break out of pins from one finisher. Sometimes I had to go through 2 rotations (3-4 finishers) to get them to stay down.
I get they went for the full arcade feel and followed No Mercy but my god they could have improved on it. 5 second entrances? No 3 v 3? No more than 4 people in the ring? These are basic features for a wrestling game.
The gameplay is fun but the price needs to be slashed to half.
... except it isn't early access. This is a full retail release and there's no roadmap or guarantee from the devs that core game design choices could be changed in the future.
I absolutely agree as one of those people who are accepting the game as a foundation. Thing is, we've been so starved of a wrestling game that isn't WWE that we're willing to ignore regular SOP for purchasing in the hopes that the game is built upon to be something that can actually compete with the 2K games on quality.
Yeah, firepro's a thing, but unless you're using Carlzilla's mods, that game's even more basic than Fight Forever.
While it could use some more polish and content, the fundamentals are there and it's the best feeling wrestling game in a long time -- though that's not to say it's perfect and doesn't have issues like the countering system being confusing and whatnot.
If you liked the old AKI games, this really does feel like one of those. They promised one, they delivered one. The gameplay is largely on point and vastly superior and more enjoyable than current WWE 2K games. When it comes to FF, gameplay is king. I have experienced some goofy glitches, collision issues, etc., that hold it back from being as good as it could be, but it's currently the most satisfying in today's wrestling game landscape. I like the interactivity, too, whether it's with the barricades (crashing into them, doing moves off of them), the breakable titantron LED screen, etc.
I also really enjoy Road to the Elite career mode. It really does remind me of the career modes in AKI and early PS1/PS2 Yuke's games. It has some really great humor, too.
That said, if you're obsessed with the CAW aspect, you'll be disappointed given its limitations. Thankfully, though, I've never been into CAW's. One of the things I was happiest about is that you can play Road to the Elite with any wrestler and not forced to use a CAW like recent WWE games.
My main complaints are the lack of matches (I want a steel cage match) and the fact that wrestlers who should be included in the game are very costly to buy. $12 for FTR? That's a lot. $30 for Season Pass 1 that doesn't include a whole lot given its high price? Pretty absurd. If they continue to support this, this could be a real money sink for people.
I don't really agree with this. Not every game needs to have the same amount of content. That doesn't make it "Early Access". I remember when WWF Raw launched on the original Xbox and it had 1 arena, even fewer wrestlers, no online, no gimmick matches, etc. That wasn't an "Early Access" game, it's just one that lacked content and was hammered for it. I also remember handheld wrestling games having like 6-8 wrestlers. Now yes, these are older games, but that doesn't matter. Like I said, not every game has to have the same amount of content.
