How does hacking work?
I'm staring at these buttons clicking through them and I haven't got the faintest clue what any of it means, it feels a lot further removed from everything else going on in this game. Can someone explain how it works?

Still not a 100% sure but from what I've gathered so far, you're basically using the plus and minus to parse that string of data until you find an actual word (which will be the password you enter into the computer).

The plus and minus buttons seem to increment/decrement ALL the values of string by one, so it's kind of like a spectrum you're going up and down to find that one sweet spot that contains the password.

The "visualize" view shows you how "warm" you are to the password I think. Each hash in the view corresponds to one of the digits in the string. The warmer you are, the more visible and green they become.

"Hex" view shows the hexadecimal number corresponding to the characters (what's being incremented and decremented). The actual numbers aren't really important, but it seems like when you are getting close to the right character, the corresponding number will turn green. They can also be blue? I'm not sure what the difference is, but whenever I found the password, the hex numbers would be green.

Basically: use visualize to know when you're getting close, then switch to hex to narrow it down further. All the password I've found so far have been just a single word somewhere in the string. You'll know you're at the right spot when you see multiple consecutive digits turn green.

Once you see a line of green numbers, switch to the character to view and look in that spot for a legible word. That will be your password.

This was a ♥♥♥♥ ton of text, so hopefully I didn't make it too confusing. I'm still working out how exactly it works, but doing it this way let me manage to at least access all the stuff in the HQ. I still have NO idea how keypad hacking works though. Going to have to play around with it more to figure that out.

You're right about the colours in visualise mode, but in the hex view all the colour tells you is whether it's a number (blue) or a letter (green). Every computer password I've seen so far has been all letters though so it's sensible to expect hex view to be have a lot of green if you're right.

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the correction!
