Stuck on 'Escaping the Maze'

After doing the Alchemy quest and getting blasted into the maze I managed to find a guy who I think gave me something/a blueprint that will help me escape. Unfortunately my inventory was full so I believe what ever he gave me was sent to my mailbox? As i am stuck in the maze I cant access the mailbox, and I didn't pay too much attention to what he actually said so I have no clue as to what i am supposed to do next.
Anybody help?

You don't need any item really besides an axe and a pickaxe which you could craft at any camp at the maze.....there is no special tool or invention that would help you here in any way.
Just pay attention to the day/night time and to the exit at the buttom of the maze ;)
