Not Enough Damascus

I am playing this game on the Nintendo Switch. I'm trying to craft the mechanical bird but I just don't have enough Damascus Steel. I have made the billet, but it seems highly impractical to keep making that for these ingots. I did get the helmet but it only gave me 10. Is there somewhere else I can get Damascus items to smelt? Or should I jist resign myself to making billets?

If you really don't want to make it using iron and steel, then use the smelter to multiply your ingots. Craft strips then smelt them again. 1 ingot turns into 3 ingots. Use the mini-game to double it again. Grind them into sharpened strips beforehand for bonus exp if you want too.

While it's kinda game breaking, you can continuously make strips of any kind of metal (takes 1 ingot) and then smelt the 3 strips for 3 individual ingots. You can even make this even more absurd by doing the forge minigame and doubling your ingots, making 6 ingots out of 1. This absolutely made grinding a lot easier for me, because I couldn't find the patience to farm the ingredients for the billets, considering the game aks for an ungodly amount of resources for an ungodly amount of crafting for all of the missions and comissions.

Fair enough. I did end up making billets and using the forge to double my output. To be honest, that really takes the fun out of the game. I was looking forward to exploring and finding ore through exploration. Seems even the glass ore requires something to be crafted then smelted.

I think the fun of the game is in the story and the interactions. But I know everyone enjoys things differently. It can be a grind but if you really wanna make them the normal way then I suggest you put your gatherer to work pronto. Have them gather the harder to get glass materials and you manually collect the iron and steel from mines (because it's plentiful and easy). Good luck!
