🌟 Obscure Smoothness Fix for Display & Game Capture Modes
This might seem crazy, but the fix is by using RTSS Scanline Sync. Vsync, Gsync or Freesync hasn't solved obs capture smoothness problems, and in some cases have made obs captures worse.

RTSS: RivaTuner Statistics Server. It comes free with MSI Afterburner.

Make sure that you enable Microsoft Detours API hooking in the RTSS settings to ensure compatibility with OBS Studio before proceeding. Failure to do so will make Game Capture mode in OBS show a black screen.

Scanline Sync moves the tearline up and down off the screen, achieving a vsync/gsync like level of visual smoothness.

Anyway. To the point.

For whatever reason, a Scanline Sync with a value of 1 helps obs smoothness when using Display Capture.

Scanline Sync set to 2080 has helped obs recordings using Game Capture mode significantly. If game capture mode has been creating weird, laggy or frame skipping/repeating of previous frames in the recorded files for no reason, definitely try this out. It's a literal life saver.

If the Scanline Sync value isn't optimal, it can actually cause the game to stutter with OBS running. Which is also why a different Scanline Sync value is required with Display Capture and Game Capture modes.

Tearlines are usually up the top of the screen, so try subtracting the value by 10 each time to move it up until it disappears off screen.

Every monitor and system is different, and require different values. Experiment, and see what Scanline Sync value works best for you.

Something to note, Exclusive Fullscreen set in games require a different Scanline Sync value to that of Borderless Fullscreen.

But my Scanline Sync has been set to x/2, which means half framerate of monitor refresh rate. So, that's helpful for 120Hz refresh rate.

Speaking of Refresh Rate, always set it to a multiple of 60FPS for highest compatibility with games and better recording smoothness.

You're welcome.

Scanline Sync in RTSS helps the smoothness of recorded files created with OBS Studio.

Forgive me. Still a bit new. But I don't see this part anywhere.
And for some reason Rivatuner lowers the fps to 30 when i try to scanline sync.

Edit: Nevermind think i manage to get around it.

My bad, it's actually called "Microsoft Detours API hooking". It is in "Setup" under the "General" tab, all the way at the bottom.

some help here, there is a way that capture a display game in w10 and can play with gsync eneable in the game and with the previsualization on in obs? because gsync disable when try to capture display window game and gsync
I haven't attempted to work around the Gsync autodisable issue when Display Capture mode is used. Gsync does work under Game Capture mode, though.

But even then, Gsync actually causes additional recording stutter with recordings made from OBS Studio. I did some more Gsync recording tests before Christmas, and I noticed significantly more recording stutter in most of my testing actually. I mean, do you really want less than optimal recording smoothness?

Gsync causes the monitor refresh rate to rapidly change, OBS really doesn't like this at all.

You are always much better off
• Setting to 60 or 120Hz Fixed Monitor Refresh Rate. This is very important.

• Utilising plain old vsync; or if you don't like the input lag, skip to the next.

• Setting framerate limiters to 60fps.

• Using RTSS Scanline Sync set to 1x (or half refresh if you're running 120hz) to not only achieve smooth gameplay, but also to achieve almost perfectly smooth OBS recordings.

Setting my refresh rate to 120Hz fixed & modifying the RTSS Scanline Sync is what actually helped improve OBS Studio recording smoothness much more than anything else.

Also, upon recent new testing (for whatever reason), setting Background Max Framerate to my monitor refresh rate has further improved the obs recording smoothness.

I'll soon have a 7900 XTX AMD GPU, so I can start experimenting with OBS recordings with AMD as well.
