How can I stream from my 3440x1440 monitor image to YouTube?

I've asked this on the obsproject.com forum, but I'll put this out here too just to widen my net...

I'm gaming on my widescreen monitor at 3440x1440, but the image I stream from OBS is too large, and even at 1080p, it just doesn't work. Is there any solution to this? I've played around with OBS settings but got nowhere with that.
