OBS Studio
Bitrate question
I have been screwing around with OBS for years now. I was never able to record graphically demanding games because of my 960. Recently bought a new PC, and now I am. But how do I get the best quality?

Because if I, for example record Just Cause 3. (Which isn't the newest game I know, but there's still a lot going on there) it looks like you can count the pixels. It is not sharp at ALL.
I have a YouTube channel where I want to upload video's, but not in that quality I just described.

Question is, I guess. How do I get the best quality recordings using OBS, I have looked around on the internet and on every website, different things are being said.

File > Video - Set Base and Output resolution (typically same as the games resolution). Set Downscale filter to Lanczos, and Common FPS Value to the same as your game (Typically 30 or 60).

next,

File > Output - Set Output Mode to Simple. Set Recording Quality to either High Quality or Indistinguishable. Set Recording Format as desired. Set Encoder to Hardware (NVENC), presuming you are still using an nvidia card.

That's probably the simplest method for settings that should give you suitable quality.

If you are using NVENC (nvidia graphic card encoding) this guide from nvidia will give you good settings and explanations - just scroll down to the recording section. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/guides/broadcasting-guide/
I'll try that, thank you very much

One more question, why don't you recommend lossless quality?

In my experience, because the file size is MASSIVE and beyond any reasonable need compared to Indistinguishable, and can cause problems in a video editor (if your computer isn't beefy). And once you render a video in an editor and upload it to YouTube you will have lost most of that quality.

There's no reason you can't use lossless, it's totally up to you, but in my opinion it's beyond what is needed and makes the files less convenient to work with.

Record some similar gameplay with each of those options (high quality, Indistinguishable, or lossless) edit/trim and render individually, upload each to YouTube and then judge for yourself which ones proves to be the most efficient. That would be my suggestion
Thanks again
