Originally.. There was going to be a "Dark Sun Online" with that exact title. It was planned on being a MMO. However a MMO that is the normal ( for the time ) isometric view. ( Top down )

When Everquest came out Dark Sun Online was completely scrapped. Due to the major enhancements and changes Everquest did when it comes to MMOs as well as overwhelmingly popular at said time it was.. They felt Dark Sun Online would not even do well enough to sustain itself little alone make a profit.

It was not a easy time for people who where working/making/operating MMOs at said time..

As a alpha tester for it.. While it was fun.. It had nothing on Everquest.. ( I also kinda seen it coming as I managed to get into the Beta for Everquest. Used to take part in a LOT of alpha and/or beta tests for a LOT of different games. ) Sadly for it and fans of the series anyway..

I sadly do not think we will be seeing a Dark Sun online/MMO. Would love to see one but I just.. Really do not see it happening. At least anytime soon that is.

*EDIT*
Oh and yes there are other MMO projects that got dropped when Everquest got released. People got really intimidated by how well it did and the fact that it was much different, and much improved over the other MMOs of its time. ( It blew the water out of other MMOs that existed before it. Even WoW has not got to its numbers despite its Blizzard's claims. Keep in mind by the time WoW came out EQ was already fairly old.. But still going very strong as its expansions where doing well. Though it started going downhill around Gates of Discord. )

There was one, on the Total Entertainment Network that I and many others played for quite some time...

One more thing, Everquest was garbage, where are you getting your bad information? lol

That is odd.. I am completely unaware of it. Must have been a small amount of players if that is the case... Not to mention little to no reach in both Japan and USA at least.

There's a recreation of NWN for FRUA IIRC.
Yes, and there was a fan made recreation years ago, Unforgotten Lands I believe? But I can't find any trace of it anymore.

Forgotten World. Played on it years ago, the forums are still up actually. People occasionally ask if the server is coming back but after this many years i doubt it.

Forums are here: http://forums.forgottenworld.com/

Even if by some dark magic anyone had the source code, it ran on AOL, which doesn't exist anymore as far as I'm aware. Sadly it's a similar situation as with the original NWN, though at least that one still works offline, not that it does you much good.

It didn't run on AOL, it ran on TEN Total Entertainment Network. If you don't know what you're talking about it's best not to say anything lol...

He/she was thinking of Neverwinter.. which started DSO .. when it went ultra popular on aol.. I am not sure why you feel the need to respond in such a negative way.. but thanks for adding nothing to the conversation =)

If you have to be a jerk, just because people cant remember exact about a thing thats like 25 years old... just dont say anything (its not even an important detail, as the facts are that it cant be played now).

And you just stand out as a clown

Yea honestly if I confused something I will admit it.. Because I probably did here. I just currently remember playing the alpha of the old Dark Sun Online.. and it was isometric gameplay like the other two Dark Sun games as well as another old MMO.. That.. Kinda got ruined a bit since a bunch of people got admin items.. I.. admit I was one of them.. A suit of platemail that was honestly way too strong.. and a dagger that was the same.. I did not even know the person was an admin till much later.. They should have never allowed us to easily steal from them lol... Trying to remember the name of the MMO but for some reason its escaping me..

It had its fun moments but it also had major issues.. PvP elements really hurt the game in some ways.. My character was basically a thief that could basically one shot most people and could hardly be hurt by anyone or thing.. Basically only others with admin stuff could do much.. And I made sure to deeply hide my items.. So there is no way they could steal anything before I notice them trying to... Think it was Ultima Online or something like that.

I imagine WarnerMedia probably owns it. If anyone still does.
i always wondered how the game was like, since there wasnt any footage available, i'm pretty a fan of universe still own the original novels and pen and paper rpg.

I played it a bit. I was pretty young and I think I got frustrated when I entered the second or third screen and it changed to turm based because someone was in combat. I just wanted to travel through. . . . one. . . character. . . at . . a . . . . . .. . . . . . . time.

Yes please. I'd KILL to be able to play that again. I miss it dearly. I can't even find a single gameplay video or anything beyond a title screen. God, I'd love to play that again.

Haha. That's definitely true. Would always happen to me when I'd go east out of town. Still, playing DSO is one of my favorite gaming memories of all time. I was young when I played it so there's so much I missed. Probably only did half the content. Not even. I'd love to be able to play the rest of it.

You girls are overly sensitive. lol.. NWN Was it's own game, it didn't start DSO, but some of the same people played it, including me.

You just confirmed my previous statement.

"you just stand out as a clown"

And why the hell are you dragging NWN into this?
