I can understand why people are unhappy but so many people miss the work that goes on under the hood, its a yearly development, aimed at making a more realistic tactical engine so a constant work in progress. Personally i hate yearly games as well as a lot of people so i look the get FM the following Febuary or from a cheap deal somewhere. Agree with me or not, nothing is changing anytime soon i doubt.
For example the newgens are complete creepy, it would be nice if they add more realistic faces without community mods.
And add a bit more superficial fluffy movements between the scenes, if they score or win a tournament or whatever.
Think the AI engine ist very good, I speak only about atmospheric improvements.
Football management is a niche market... it doesn't have the same appeal as Fifa... so when they look to update the game, and add new features and consider a new engine, it comes down to whether they will make a profit, and how big that profit is... so spending millions and millions on a completely new game almost, would be stupid if it meant that either barely made any profit, or even broke even...
Plus, no one is forcing you to buy the game every year, you can play a football manager for years and years and years...
I would rather they stuck to how they develop the game, than take the EA approach and go for microtransactions to make even more money, while still charging £60+ for the base game, while pushing people to play the MT aspect of the game...
Pre season needs an overhaul, why can we only play cups and leagues on consecutive days? Top teams should be getting more offers to play in USA, China, Dubai etc with easily identifiable financial benefits. Things like the Audi cup etc added in also.
Non league- I think this needs a bit of an overhaul too. Probably a bit much to stop south coast based players signing for FC United for £90 a week but i do think it should be harder to get older players to turn Pro and likewise signing pro players at PT clubs.
Facilities- I took a non league side to the Prem but never had the option to buy, rent or build another ground for the reserves to play at so constantly had a knackered 1st team pitch.
Id also like to see the other facilities bit improved, Id like to see what my £2m upgrade has got me, even if still just words on the page but telling me we now have an indoor pitch, Gym or whatever. Medical facilities added too. For lower league clubs, most in the game have poor facilities but many teams are hiring modern community facilities that are of a decent standard. This could be reflected also.
Reserve team leagues- I requested a reserve team on one save, it was granted but they never joined a league in about 7 seasons. I have read somewhere that it can happen but can take a long time. On a different save I was automatically given an u18 side after getting into the SPL and they joined a league instantly. so some improvements there could be good too.
No, you're paying for the development of the PS5 game, and a very minor UI update.
This games engine has been in the game since the early 2010's and has probably never been fully changed. That means it's likely to be complete spaghetti code and not modular in any way, that means it's very hard to upgrade the engine entirely to the point fans want.. If they were to do that, it would involve likely a brand new engine, which simply cannot be done in a year regardless of how big the team is. So we either skip a year or release a reskin on one or two years. Maybe they're doing that? To me it seems unlikely, let's see what happens by 2025.
Yeah i agree, its right what you say there about all the amount of code. I do think they could or may even have a team working for multiple years on some amazing new engine but i doubt it. Thats how it would work though, they will set a side the necessary team members to work on it whilst the rest carry on as normal. I do think the match engine improves every year though and that is why the hardcore fans stick around.
Everyone is saying "OMG why can't they make it look better". Well, as others have said, it's a lot of work, plus from what I think - it would have huge implications on the appearance of players, kits etc. In other words, they could add graphical quality, more lifelike etc, but they couldn't add player or kit likenesses as they dont have the licences for a lot of teams. And given the scope of the game - number of teams and leagues etc, imagine the work needed to do that anyway? And then you'd get "OMG Ronaldo looks nothing like the real player", even FIFA with all EA's muscle has frequently been memed over the years for bad player likenesses.
Subtle incremental improvements on the graphics are best. For me, I think a more representative 3D match experience would be best, without spectacular graphics. So without the silly things we see and without the predictable patterns of play that occur in it.
I doubt anything huge will change in one iteration, This makes money now, why change it. Thats my cynical attitude working. However, with the latest engine changes it could be a close enough to realism match engine that it frees up more time to change the look and freshen things up. This is all just my guess and opinion.
