Game-breaking janitor key bug

Hey y'all. When I first found the janitor's mannequin room I took the key right away--now that I've gone back to the basement after telling Peggy, Forrest goes, "hey! a key!" even though I'd already picked it up. I can't unlock any new doors. Any way around this?

There is a second key that can be found inside the wall where the information on the victims originally was (Which is now in the radio room).
Walk into the room and just go forwards to the end wall.
