You clicked on a thread and tripled down on a topic you had no idea about.
You picked a fight with the OP. OP is in the ring, waiting for you to step in.
But you didn't step in. You got in your car, drove to a parking lot of a grocery store that went out of business, punched and swung at the air a few times, then raised your arms and celebrated, not even realizing how badly you lost. You do have optimism though, I'll give you that.
+ they also provide you with offline installers for keepers (which no one can really take away from you).
The Galaxy launcher is thus optional, so a number of users currently rather use none, or either Heroic/Playnite (for a joint access to all of the different gaming libraries) as an alternative.
Other than that it's mostly preference, I'd say.
For the games that are available for it:
DRM free. I think I'd have less an issue if Steam didn't screw me over with offline mode not launching a game from time to time, but internet situation has been more stable in the last few years, so less an issue at this time.
No performance overhead from Steam (only 500 MB in memory, occasional updates slowing down the game's launch, sometimes won't let me launch two ga,mes) or need for regular Steam updates to launch a game. GOG's Galaxy is optional. Newer computers far less an issue. Not so great on an older Frankenstein computers limping along with 8 GB, but the players don't have interest in games with higher demands yet.)
For several games, the player can choose the patches in case there are patches that adjust or remove things. Where I generally say, I want the latest patch even if there were things I liked from previous patches.
No region lock on games and all the risks of losing access to your account and library attempting to circumvent that. Example of a game I cannot play on Steam (the game is Taiko Risshiden V DX in case you try to do a web search for it and click the link from there): https://store.steampowered.com/app/1842810/Taiko_Risshiden_V_DX/
Still supporting devs.
With optional launcher with storefront and review system, with cloud saving and achievement tracking for games that support that.
I'll play it on Steam if I have to. Have been known to re-buy games for GOG for long-term legitimate preservation.
The only Kepler games on GOG appear to be: Scorn, Cat Quest 1, Cat Quest 2 and En Garde!.
