Are you parrying a lot? Luck and Agility.
Agility lets you take turns more often, sometimes before the enemies can return fire.
Don't worry about messing up too much, because odds are, you'll be using recoats in the late game to get the best result.
The caveat is that you should be a bit stingy about swapping weapons too many times because recoats aren't plentiful until Act 3 and it will take a tad bit of grind to get them easily.
Don't fret too much though. Early game I avoided investing a ton of attribute/lumina points and weapon upgrades because FOMO but it was still pretty feasible on normal mode.
