The navigation is just terrible
I honestly enjoy the game but I am being pushed to a breaking point with this navigation. I have spent WAY too much time back tracking, getting lost, and trying to find all the side paths, that it has actually burnt me out on the game.

I love the idea of not having a map/minimap, but that only actually works when your levels are readable. Almost every single level in Clair Obscur requires an extreme amount of focus to remember all the paths and even which direction you came from, because on every side of you, at all times, are massive cliffs. There are no distant landmarks or something like an ocean on one side to easily orient yourself. Even worse, there is so much clutter and noise in the environment you can't really even turn in a random direction and know which way it is. I forget which way I came from by doing fights or resting at a checkpoint.

Not to mention the open world - Near the end of Act 2 I had a thought that I would go back to the village to fight Golgra, but upon realizing that would probably be a 10+ minute trip JUST for, walking I dropped that idea. And there are so many unmarked merchants that I would like to revisit, and side quests I need to return to but I don't remember what area they are from. It's just not reasonable to re-find them all without guides, when most games have things like fast travel, a quest log, actual maps (i'm not talking about mini maps) to help with navigation, or just properly designed levels.

It just broke me, because I enjoy this game a lot but the amount of time I am spending on navigation and how truly unfun it is really did me in.

In Act 3, you fly with Esquie and overworld traversal is a lot easier and faster.

As for the stages, I get a little lost at times too, so I feel your pain.

Also, do not fight Golgra in Act 2, it's near impossible.

Not having a minimap is one of the best things ingame. Minimaps are a scourge. We are an expedition trying to navigate hostile territory, and no expedition has ever mapped it. So not having a map is purely logical. And only a very small number of dungeons is big enough to get lost in in the first place.

the areas aren't complex and are quite easy to navigate. the only one i'd say maybe could use something is the sinister cave because it's so dark and is just loops around back to itself. at some point you do also gain the ability to teleport from flag to flag within an area.
I enjoy not having a minimap. It's immersive. It engages your brain so you actually look at the environment and notice landmarks so you don't get lost. Yes it can be frustrating sometimes but I prefer not staring at a minimap so much like you end up doing in other games.

I went back to The Witcher 3 a few weeks ago and I spent half my time looking at the minimap. I had to install a mod that auto hides the entire UI when it's not needed. Much more enjoyable.

never had any issues with navigation if you actually bothered to read the main quest and it literally shows you BIG FAT RED MARKER on the map you can clearly see where you need to go
Sounds like a you problem to me, so not the game's fault?
Everyone tb its not bad navigation is dikeatin, idgaf about immersion if idk were tf im going and the game doesnt have a distinct path half the time, yea in the OVERWORLD, the big red mark helps but when ur in a area its easy to get lost, just happened to me on the forgotten battlefield

nearly every area is just the main path with short dead ends or lpaths that loop back to the main path. it's pretty hard to get lost.

True. If you're getting lost frequently then you have pretty low awareness tbh.
And another one of generation tiktok that can't even pay attention to the game he is playing. ALL main paths are marked by light/lanterns. If you can't see those then nobody can help you.

People just don't know how to navigate anymore. I found it pretty easy to get my bearings, but i don't rely on gps in the real world either.

Even if you were not aware of that fact there are tried and true strategies to navigate a labyrinth. For me, the exploration of areas has been half of the fun. But ymmv.

games spoil people now. like wow, now there's all kinds of quest markers to lead you around. you used to have to read your quest log and follow directions(sometimes very vague ones at that)

The main routes are marked somehow, usually by something bright (floating lamps, glowing mushrooms, etc.)

Edit: somehow missed the posts above that said it first
