If it's not turn based combat, it's not an RPG.
Once upon a time one of the defining features of what made an RPG an RPG was turn based combat. But in the last decade or so we have seen every action game with any sort of player progression system slap the RPG tag on it's self. It reminds me of those chain bookstores that put Fantasy and Science Fiction in the same Fing section. They are two completely different genres.

It's refreshing to me to see a real old school RPG game with turn based combat.

Being turnbased has never been the defining trait of the RPG genre

deus ex is an rpg
And shooter games had you look left and right at one point. Now they let you look up and down, those clearly are not shooter games, they cant be... Those should belong in a different genre obv. and dont get me started on third person games

where in "Role Playing Game" is turn based implied or suggested? also fantasy and sci fiction are both fiction, so it makes sense they're put together in the same way biographies and history books are both placed in non-fiction.
Pen & Paper (Tabletop) Dungeons & Dragons is an RPG.

Technically, any games is an rpg. In each games you play as someone else. So you kinda roleplay. XD

Consider going outside
Diablo-likes are RPGs, even if you pretend they aren't.
