Numbers death explanation
I've only just started playing but dont understand: reducing the time by 1 year each year makes no sense. After all, if 34 year olds die one year and 33 year olds the next, what about those who were 33 the year before and are now 34?From a mathematical point of view, dont every second year group of people dies?

People over the age also die.

if the number is 33 on the monolith, and you turn 33, you gommage
there is no one above 33 in lumiere at the start of the game

no exception, the moment the number on the monolith changes, everyone who is AT LEAST of that age get thanos snapped.
When the number goes down to 33, if your birthday to 33 was the exact day of the gommage, you get deleted the exact same way as someone who turned 33 one year prior and is now 34 and something. if you turn 33 one day AFTER the 33 gommage, and therefore will be 33 and 364 days old by the time the number goes to 32, then you'll get deleted when the number goes to 32 despite being 33, and one day away from being 34.

To try to sum up what others said more succinctly:

- Every year, the number decreases by one and everyone who is that age or older when it does gets gommaged

- That means being born the day after the gommage gives you the most time to live because when a gommage happens you haven't gotten to your next year of life yet (because your birthday is the day after).
