The game is relatively linear with a big focus on story and characters. But there is also a lot of optional stuff later on. 30h story / 30h optional stuff. Artstyle, VA and especially the OST is very good.
The game's biggest weakness is its accessibility. Minimap is only available in the Overwold and the skilling can take a lot of time later because there are quite a lot of pictos (skills) in the endgame.
All in all, I would advise you to buy the game. If you really have doubts, take a look at some gameplay. But try to avoid spoilers. The game works best when you know as little as possible about the story.
I had to install a double exp mod just to play, and it completely wrecked the pacing.
I did just find a few tanky builds so I'll have to try that next time. I'm still hoping for DLC or ending tweaks, though.
