Clair Obscur 2: Clea vs. Alan Wake
That's me trying to keep the title vague and non-spoilery, btw. But I expect spoilers in the thread, though. What do you guys think? Where would you take a sequel?

How about Darth Vader vs Godzilla?

Nahhh, Harry Potter vs Dune is what we need.

I think any sequel will have to be based on the real world, and Maelle can't be involved much if at all. If neither ending is canon, then they cannot bring up Verso's canvas, only minor references at most. Clea and the parents and Writers would be the primary returning characters.

Otherwise, they just go with completely different characters.

Clea's perspective, writers vs painters. Lore wise probably make it to where there's real world repercussions for entering into places you don't have power in. So if painters go into writings, they're at high risk, if writers find a way into paintings, they're at high risk IRL.

And the reason why Clea would enter a writing is to affect the health of the writers IRL, it could seriously hurt them, or put them into a non ending world of nightmares which they can't escape. I dunno throwing ideas at the wall.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect Maelle to be the protagonist. Since the surprise of the painted world is gone, I expect a sequel would involve the painter vs. writer conflict in the real world. Clea could be a protagonist, the family as a whole could be playable, or we could get someone new. The gameplay could pass between the real world and various painted and written worlds in the conflict.
Well I wouldn't want a "2" at all because of timeline issues. I much prefer prequels since we all know to an extent the limits of how the prequels story can be. As for main character, I would appreciate getting in the brains of the other side of the story: the writers. Really I feel like the original game has so much to elaborate on that there could be 2 more prequels without running out of ideas.

While a fully real-world sequel (or even prequel) would be fun if they make it work, I imagine they would have to involve delving into painting or written works due to how prevalent they are in the universe. Delving in and out of multiple ones would be a nice step up. Sequels often involve in that direction. Jak I to Jak II anyone?

I think Verso's ending IS canon.

Maybe it's just me, but i think that they really insist on pushing the fact that Maelle IS NOT the main character.

Chapter 1 is Gustave, Chapter 2 is Verso, and everything turn pretty much around them, Chap 1 is the story of Gustave, you get many things with him only
Chap 2 is the evolution of Verso as a character in the Expedition 33.

Maelle is a relationship, just as Sciel, Monoco, Esquie and Lune.

Also the only choice you can do in the game, change something only if you chose Verso.

Game universe is pretty much Renoir Vs Aline,
Renoir created Expedition to stop Aline, which they can't do
because Aline created Renoir/Verso/Alicia, to protect the manor, which is the only way to get her.

It's only because Alicia was egoistic that the end of the paintress was possible, but what made it happen is 100% Verso.

Everyone else in the game is just following the cycle they were created for.

Lumiere's people keep repeating the cycle of going and dying, because they're not powerful enough.
And if they succeed, just like Expedition 0, then they would turn against their old fellow, because if not, it would mean killing everyone.

Even Maelle is like this.

Verso is the main character, and Renoir (the true one) is an absolute chad.

Renoir didn't create the expeditions, though. He just entered the canvas and started tearing the world apart. The expeditions where created to find survivors after Renoir had torn the world apart. And then continued later to end the Paintress.
