blatant Only Up rip-off

total rip off of Only Up. it has some innovations like storyline and combat but it comes at a cost of less platforming sections. the game keeps interrupting the real experience (vertical traversal) with long stretches of talking and fighting like anyone asked for that. i kept thinking "when do i get to go up again" and the game was like "no wait here's a sad monologue" or "fight this paint monster" or whatever. ok.

but when it lets you climb? magic. peak gaming. there's something so pure about missing a jump and falling all the way back down to gestral beach. that's what games are about. and clair obscur gets that... occasionally. i respect that.

the best part is they trick you into doing this huge dramatic story (which i ignored) just so you can unlock drip. one of the outfits is literally a dude with baguette on his back. incredible. now every time i climb, i do it dressed like french bread. art.

its ok to anyone who loves platforming and has the patience to endure a bunch of nonsense just to look cool while jumping.

Yep, Gestral Beach is the real game here. Everything else is just there to make the netflix normies happy.

Hated that beach minigame. Loved the concept, but starting completely over after nearly reaching the top is painful. I fell like, five times and it takes so long to get back up there. 😭
