Pick Egide skill on Maelle and equip Energising Pain picto. Put all points into Defense. At battle start use Egide to tank for the party. This way while you’re learning how to dodge/parry Maelle will absorb majority of attacks, and thanks to her high defense you will not be punished as much for mistakes.
Use Gustave to to charge his hand and when he has 10/10 charge then do his overload attack. Breaking enemies in act1 is very powerful.
Also spend all your colour of lumina on Maelle. It works better than spreading points equally as offensive picto/lumina are multiplicative. So it starts weak but get OP later.
BTW: make sure to not kill white nevrons. Their quest net you 100 points of lumina. Only kill the one that challanges you for a duel and asks to finish him for his unique picto.
Make 100% sure to use Maelle for the final fight at a tournament. Make sure to win her purple sword. It’s arguably the best weapon in the game for the best character when other rewards are trash that you may already own - standard drop from enemies.
