Something I wish played more of a role in the story.
I haven't beaten the game yet, so maybe they do eventually, but I feel like the random records you find laying around should have had a more important role in the story.

With how they talk about the importance of creating those things the story should have centered around collecting them as a way of gathering crucial need to know information. That without that information you will eventually reach areas that you can't pass.

That way when you finally defeat the paintress you can sit back and realize that without the sacrifices made by those who came before you, your team would have never even made it to the paintress, let alone taken her down.

Will make sense after finishing game why they didn't make them more relevant to the story.

I agree with you , but in order to save time writing long in-depth journals, the devs gave us a quick entry to humanize the people that came before.

In reality , they could have been longer journals with many pages, like the one gustave can write at camp rests. I wanted the same thing you did during my play
I kinda wish there were more of them. Rather than a sparse scattering of single logs for different expeditions, have lots of them and not necessarily one per expedition, tell us a bit of story. When we find a bunch of expeditioner corpses, what happened to them? What disaster befell them such that they ended up dead in that field?

This is a rare game, one where I'm interested in the characters and the world, so the more descriptive exposition I can get, the better.

There's also some really interesting named ones that should have played into a little story in the game but it didn't. Like really we just gonna leave it at that no one is gonna talk in camp? Lol
