Am I doing something very wrong? ** Possible Spoilers **
I just got to Tainted Lumiere, and it's about 10x harder than the previous location. I'm literally getting one-shot. Each of my characters are at around 2500HP and level 50. I guess it's true what they say about the game. Hit points don't mean ♥♥♥♥. Maybe I should respec everything I have in vitality into something more useful.

Just run by the enemies to the boss. You won't make a dent unless you are level 60 or 70.

HP and DEF is very important. Just use some high level picto to rise your HP and DEF higher. Add buffs like shell and debuffs on bosses to lower their damage.
Putting more levels into damage won’t change much if you get capped at 9999.

Also here is a guy completing the whole story on normal without a single parry.

See I heard defense is NOT important at all--that it provides too little benefit. Most of my characters are the same with about 32 vit, 25 might, 45 agility, 10 defense (or less), and about 30 luck. I can't find a hard and fast rule on this and it seems everyone has a different idea of what's important. But going from that snowy area to the Tainted Lumiere area is just night and day. It's not well balanced at all.

Why is the game so unbalanced in the next required area? That doesn't make sense.

It’s a matter of opinion + a matter where you are.
VIT and DEF is super strong in ACT1 and still good in ACT2. Then it gets flipped in ACT3 where you put all into damage and get HP from pictos.
Wherever you are make sure you have your weapons at max possible level - 9, 19 or 32. I think you should have lvl19 at that point.

I see a lot of less experienced players ignoring VIT (not just in this game) and make their games super hard unintentionally. I saw the same in Elden Ring. Any game is hard if you can be one shotted but these games are not like that. You can be tanky and can make such games easier.

Yeah my weapons are all like level 13-15. So, maybe I just need to farm more and upgrade my weapons. I'd respec my characters as I've not used ONE red coat (I think they're called). I've acquired quite a few so far. But unlike Elden Ring and Dark Souls, which I've sunk hundreds of hours in, the attributes in Expedition 33 aren't as cut and dry. I'm loving the game though. it's turning out to be one of my favorites despite the unnecessary difficulty spikes in areas where it doesn't make sense.

nah, you gotta kill everything. including clair obscur and the mime.

i did notice a significant jump in difficulty in tainted lumiere compared to the rest of the monolith. those sword guys mess me up with their timings for some reason. i'll go a fight or two taking almost no damage and then the next fight i'll get into "last stand" mode or actually wipe.

The game is not that hard if you know where to get upgrades for your weapons or where to find the best pictos. Or if you explored well and got good number of colour of lumina.
It can also make a massive difference depending on your build and weapons you use. Medalum for Maelle specifically.

Yeah those are the enemies... The ones right next to the Tainted Lumiere flag. They just wipe my entire party in seconds. The prior area (before you take the train) is a lot simpler. I didn't lose any party members there at all. I don't really like it that you need to dodge or parry, or die in one hit.
