Confused on Progress

Does anyone have suggestions on progression outside of the main acts? I'm at the midway point of Act 2, having just faced Renoir in Old Lumier, & my characters are about level 27-28. The overworked map is leading me to Siren or Visages, so I went to Visages and was having trouble on the 2nd run-in with the Maskkeeper. I feel like I'm under leveled, but I've explored everywhere on the map (at least the places I could access without flying and some of the red zones that say Danger). I wish it was a little more intuitive on where to go in between the main areas, I either end up completely over-powered, or under-powered.

I love this game but am getting frustrated trying to find new places to explore and ways to level up my character. I don't want to change the difficulty settings (on normal now), but at a loss for what to do here. Any advice would be appreciated.

the entry area's of Sirene's region have mostly flying enemies and they die pretty easy, you can use that to experience farm a bit.

Thanks, I'll try that. I should be leveled enough for either area, maybe I just need to get good, as they say, lol

I think you're fine on the level. Has something do with your equipment/team synergy if anything.
Leveling isn't that super important well it is but you could grind for hours and still get rolled by something if you can't dodge flurrys.
