(Spoilers) Clea Ink Theory
I'll preface by starting with the fact that I have not yet finished the Endless Tower, and so may be missing more. This is likely 100% wrong, but might be fun to look into.

Nevrons apparently have ink instead of blood. Initially you'd think this makes sense since a lot of the world is art based. But if the whole family are painters, then why wouldn't it be paint for blood? After a quick search, ink doesn't appear to ever be related to paint.

What is ink related to then? For starters writing on paper, whether with a quill or typewriter. So then it is curious that we have a faction called the Writers within the lore. It is likely just a coincidence, but it does give me some thoughts for a theory.

Clea is somehow either a Writer herself (betrayal always a theme in stories.) or at the very least is dabbling in writing on the side, to learn their powers to fight against them in the real world.

This can also mean one more thing. Whether she knows writing for nefarious means or to learn what makes their enemies tick, why would ink be used in Nevrons then? Well, the Nevrons were made for one specific purpose, locking away all of Aline's Chroma. Perhaps then ink/Writers are capable of nullifying Painters. Writers have Ink while Painters have Chroma.

Though I suppose if you're a Painter and you hate Writers, you'd create enemies in a world with ink for blood, like they're a stand in for painters. Except for the white nevrons, all the others are essentially monsters and probably don't deserve to live, representing Clea's disdain for anything to do with writing. Nevrons are monsters, and so are the Writers for having killed Verso.

I remember when someone was about to go to battle, they said something like ... let's draw ink (instead of let's draw blood). Wish I could remember who or when they said it, but I remember doing a double take when they said it

Pretty sure you're talking about Maelle and Lune.

Yeah, early on I had this theory that blood in the game did not exist at all anywhere, and that even people had ink for blood (since they said ink a lot). But, you do end up seeing actual blood later on, and a couple people actually say blood.

Although, Verso's scars look a bit black, and his one scene makes it look like his body is actually made of some black substance.

Why assume the writers are the bad guys? Yeah, they killed Verso but are you 100% sure that was an unprovoked attack? Can you really be sure the painters didn't start the conflict in the first place?

Bad guys in relation to the world? We don't know. But bad guys in relation to the Dessendres? Most definitely.
