I'm sure there's an audio queue too but I wasn't paying attention. Maybe right when the sound effect ends?
Honestly, I never figured out the parry timing either, if they're even parryable, but the dodge window's pretty lenient. When time slows down and they're about to fall into the party and explode, wait a half second or so and dodge. I've consistently avoided damage this way.
When in doubt, stack up defensive Pictos that boost your health/defense when you see those guys in the field. Anything to help tank the hit, right?
