does this game need a controller?

So I bought this game last night but after 2 loading screens saying you need a controller to play well, I refunded as I dont use controllers. But today I was wondering if I was being hasty on refunding before I really knew how bad it would be. Anyone on pc not using controller for this game have any wisdom ?

It's playable on both. I played it with both keyboard and controller.

You can rebind any keys inside the game fairly easy and you may want to depending on your play style. The main thing is the keys you want to press fast like parry and such you may want closer to wasd. But that's about it. There's a video I found showing the keybinding options:

ya i think i just pulled the rip cord too soon, re-bought it, hope the keyboard is fine. Thanks for your response

Absolutely NEED? No. Plus, today they supposedly fixed the mouse and keyboard issues. Even controllers had been a bit buggy, but they got an update as well. So either is fine.

seems like they didn't, the very first combat tutorial gets stuck in a QTE where they expect you to press "A" from a controller, even when none are connected or exist and there's no equivalent keyboard mapping and there's no way to proceed.
