(Spoilers) Actual Painter/Artist Powers Discussion

Ignoring the endings and stories and E33 and everything else, let's discuss the actual powers that artists (I imagine every type of art is equally magical, unless the only reason Writers are after the Dessendres is due to jealousy or something else.)

Painters can create fantastical worlds that almost seem more lifelike than actual life. But is there a purpose to this? Just a hobby that only a few can get involved in?

If Writers, and others, have similar powers, how do they differ? Painters get lost gazing into a canvas, while writers could get lost in reading their favorite book. But if they don't create magical worlds, then what might they do instead?

I haven't finished the game yet (clearing the map before the end), but here's what I was thinking. Writers... If their powers are similar to Painters, then isn't Clair Obscur part of the Myst universe?
