[INFO] Crashes on loading cutscenes
Hey there.

Since our 1.2.3 update a few hours ago, we've been monitoring reports of crashes when entering a cutscene.

It seems the majority of the reports are from those of you using particular mods to change display/sharpness.

Some mods have been updated since this patch.

Usual note here of we cannot guarantee how mods will or won't act with the game, but, updating or disabling your mods may help you with these crashes.

We are also trying to find more information from players who are experiencing this crash with zero mods installed. That is specifically crashes related to cutscenes, either:

- Immediately or during a cutscene
- When trying to skip a cutscene

Please comment these details and I can pass to the team, and it won't hurt to fill this form out too:

Not using any mods but had two crashes today on the GP version, both either on or shortly after entering a cutscene.. Running a 4070s on W11 w/ the latest Nvidia drivers.
The issue was resolved after updating my motherboard BIOS to the latest version. After the update, the game launches correctly in DX12 and cutscenes display normally without the red screen. If anyone is experiencing similar crashes or graphical issues, I strongly recommend checking for a BIOS update.
This is my 2nd post.

I've managed to fix my CTD issue (Crash-To-Desktop) by installing a mod called "ClairObscurFix" from Nexusmod website.

I had no mods on this game, originally.
I hope they fix it soon so I won't have to use mod just to get the game working.
what an irony...
after this update when I load my savegame and during loading, the game always crashes “fatal error” :/
Before yesterday, this game has worked flawlessly. I have no idea what suddenly happened, 24 hours in. Ever since I entered the Monolith it's nothing but crashes. Yesterday, I've had 7 in half an hour. All fatal errors. With no rhyme or reason, whether I am running around, fighting or idling. I've tried every fix under the sun that I could research and still no change.. I love this game immensely, that's why this is doubly upsetting. This is immersion breaking and really takes the fun out of it. I really hope this can and will be fixed. It's very Whooooo :(
I've been getting the "UE Sandfall game has crashed and will close" error occasionally for the past week, but didn't think much of it since every time it happened I could just reload my save and continue playing with no issues.

Now starting today when I try to reload my save at the Endless Tower the game always crashes on the loading screen and I get the error. Game is literally unplayable now :\
Now it crashed just as I had a major Mime fight almost won... what fun.
When I try to load my save file it keeps crashing. Loading another save file works but my main file is not working.
I am trying to play on the Steam Deck, without mods, and the game crashes after the speech about the departing expedition at the end of the Prologue.

Posting my experience with the latest update running on Intel 13700K in hopes it may help others out:

I had consistent issues with crashing upon entering cutscenes or new areas, getting the fatal error about decompressing shaders on relaunch (sometimes even getting stuck with black screens where I couldn’t exit the game without rebooting my computer). I could barely get 15 minutes worth of gameplay before the game would crash again due to shader compilation causing CPU usage to spike.

Reading about the decompression error online and seeing that it isn’t exclusive to this game, I came to the conclusion that the crashes are likely related to the voltage stability issues on the 13th-gen CPUs.

I thought I already updated my BIOS with the microcode fixes Intel had made to address the issues, but after verifying the available BIOS updates for my motherboard I noticed Intel had made additional fixes since the last time I updated.

After updating my BIOS with microcode update 0x12F and restoring my previous BIOS settings, I haven’t encountered the crash in over an hour of uninterrupted gameplay - no issues entering cutscenes or travelling to new areas.

So for those running similar gen Intel CPUs, I highly suggest checking your BIOS version to make sure you have the proper microcode fixes for improving voltage stability.

I had also seen posts from some people suggesting lowering the CPU core ratio to “fix” the issue, but that seems too drastic of a change to lower your overall system performance just for a game… At the very least try the microcode update before attempting more extreme measures.

i am running into the same problem and same specs:steamfacepalm:
I followed someone's advice (can't remember who) of just lowering my graphical settings. So far it's worked and haven't had a crash since. I just set everything to 'Medium', and it still looks pretty damn good graphically. I know that isn't a fix-all for everyone, but where it seemed to happen pretty frequently with me, this helped a ton.

No, it's not your CPU. It crashes on Steam Deck also which is AMD.
