You're not wrong unfortunately.
The thing is people should be able to skip or choose which NG+ they want to go.
Considering that the NG+ goes up to NG+5 and "that boss in that dark place" has ~180m HP in 2nd Phase in NG+3. I'd say that NG+5 should work very well overall, the problem is some people don't want to do NG+ to NG+4 when they already 100%ed the game in NG
I like this idea (and story-bosses should have a scaling mechanic to prevent them to become to easy.
And there should be a new difficulty option that simply has faster animations for enemies (so the timing gets harder).
This, coupled with the normal difficulty settings could lead to faster battles in NG+ that aren't harder if you play on Story or become somewhat harder if you play on Expert.
A new difficulty would definitely spice things up. Thing is, the final boss of the game has amazing moments and cinematic pieces during the fight, that I'd wager a fair bit of people didn't even get to witness due to the one shot mechanics. Same thing with the bout that shortly follows. A pity really and it isn't the player's fault for using the picto either, but the developer's for giving it too early.
Someone mentioned a good idea and I feel it needs to be relayed. Do not give painted power until after the final boss is taken down, or rather, give painted power, but call it something else and unlock its full potential after the conclusion of Act III. This would stop people from unknowingly just steamrolling the game after Act II.
