If you're sure the enemy isn't immune, then it's just bad luck on crit. Increase the crit chance to 100% and it will never fail.
The ones I tried were immune to one element, so I expected 3 stains. Getting 1-2 per pop with 89% crit rate is some cosmic bs.
If you are only hitting 3 times with 89% crit, you have a 30% chance of getting only one or two stains. I don't find that too unreasonable
11% is not a 50%
Try to find the additional 11% crit chance somewhere.
It's hilarious how many people in all kind of games come to steam forums for sole reason - to show how they don't understand how probabilities work. 100% or out, that's it

63% chance to get 4 stains with that attack.
