Parrying window
Skill issue yeah i get it whatever
Enemies constant feints and fake outs on the attacks makes parrying incredibly annoying. I keep seeing posts talking about a sound cue but i have my game at max volume and i cannot hear it. I just want to experience the story, getting one shot by and enemy with 17 fake outs and a massive weapon that visually connects with you like 2 whole seconds after the parry window closes is ridiculous. Is there an option to turn just the parry sound cue up?

I know this is not what you asked, but I find not every attack has a discernible/useful sound cue; also, the sound cue, like the attack animation, needs to be learned.
No there isn't. You'll just have to learn to adapt and remember enemy attack patterns. If you don't want to deal with parrying as a whole you always do the more forgiving dodge instead. You'll lose damage since you won't be able to counterattack and fill enemy break gauges. On the otherside though, if you are struggling, dodging also gives you the opportunity to learn what you can't from just trying to parry.

Also, consider moving to easy difficulty if you haven't already. The game only gets harder with what comes flying at you if you don't adapt. None of this is an attempt to be rude but to inform. Not every game is for everyone and combat is so much at the front of this game that if you dislike it, then it may not be the game for you.
Every attack in the game has a sound cue.

Except the ones that do not.

Every attack in the game also has predictable windups.

Except the ones that do not.

The basic idea of the combat system is excellent, but the execution is a bit uneven, with me literally staring at my screen in disbelief at having failed to dodge attacks I felt I timed absolutely perfectly.

When it works, however, it really works. I really enjoyed fighting the swordsman boss at the bottom of a pit full of blood. Very dangerous long combos, but the parry and jump timings were very well done and made you feel clever for figuring out. Easily the best boss in the game for me so far.

More like every attack has a cue, you just have to figure out which. Sometimes it's sound. Sometimes it's enemy's weapon connecting with you. Sometimes is some color change on their weapon. Sometimes it's a visual effect like a slow-down or some warping.

The parry window being so small and unforgiving while being part of a turn based RPG is criminal. It can quickly suck the fun out of the game when you miss 1 and wipe. Even on recommended difficulty it feels punishing.

I love everything about the game bar the dodge/parry, so just made a go first one shot build for most characters. Who needs to parry when everything is dead?
There's a mod that makes dodge/parry easier... or harder (if you're into that). There are multiple versions of said mod, so you can adjust the difficulty to your liking.

Since you have the icon indicating you own the game on Steam (i.e. PC), you should have no problem installing and using said mod.

Dodge is much easier. About 50% larger window makes it about 2x easier. Don’t be too greedy and use dodge instead. Parry is useless if missed.

Tanky builds can survive longer combos and if not then you have like 10x reviving potions. If you don’t skip exploration ans find upgrades then they heal 100%.

And there is also easy mode with no penalty of using it.

From someone who beat the toughest superboss in the game without using exploits,

Don't underestimate the power of dodge.

Sometimes the risk ain't worth the reward. XD
I would like to point out a bit of very good game design: if you time your dodge perfectly, it will tell you PERFECT instead of DODGE. This means that once you can manage to PERFECT every single dodge, you're ready to start parrying instead for more +AP and counterattacks.

Very good feedback for the player.
just dodge m8, thats what I did anyway.
Yeah, while I do agree with the op that there definitely are some problems with the Parry window, it's been really helpful to me to just use the Dodge until I'm confident in an enemys attack animation to the point that parrying feels like less of a Gamble

That's actually a very good point. I think there's even a loading tooltip suggesting the use of dodging to learn attack patterns before parrying.

So if someone's unlike me (i.e. I really dislike the inclusion of these souls-like mechanics and would prefer the game without them, so I use mods) then this is probably THE way to go.

It's NOT just about learning or skill. Yes repeatedly getting your ass handed while learning will make some enemies better but honestly those people saying skill issues or get good need to come down their high horse just because their 15-25 yo reflexes.

Those parry windows varry from 0.25-0.12 second which means it's probably around 250/120 milliseconds. That paired with every enemy having 3+ different attacks and of those you have at least 1-2 with multiple hit combos with 3+ hits that are asymmetrical and even have visual baits in there and when you learned one enemy the next complete new one is just around the corner and when you learned the combos of the next 5 after that you already forgot what the 6th enemy before that could all do. Add age or disabilitys or even just casual or new gamers to that and it equals a disaster. Getting older alone from a certain age on drains 6/7 ish milliseconds per year from you, a gamer in his mid 40/50 can have lost up to 200 milliseconds from their reflexes at that point and that's just cruel age alone....

So while the kids might have it easy to brag and say skill issues it really isn't. It really is just way overtuned in the payout as well as requirements and therefore locking out a huge part of the people playing the game.

Don't get me wrong it's an amazing system and finally a truly turn based next gen experience like square enix should have done with it's ff7 remake or many other turn based games could need to finally bring that genre into the next generation. However that window is even tighter then souls games and anything else out there and therefore it is a huge barrier for many. The best solution would be to simply patch in a option to increase the window
or for those brag alots to decrease it even further like certain mods do with 30/100/200 % I think and it would be much more accessible that way for various groups of gamers. Let's be quiet honest NO ONE enjoys having to use the "baby" difficulty even if your just a casual or lazy gamer type that still stings and it's even worse for old/disabled people to have that soured taste while playing the game.

Saying its just skill issues might work in a lot of cases but this game certainly is not one where it is that simple.

To me it's really fun to learn the attacks. If people think that parry is too hard for certain enemies you can always turn down the difficulty.
I really enjoy defence options, they add alot to the gameplay and difficulty.

You can always evade, gives you a bigger window.

I think the game just has an excessive amount of feints to have to remember all of them, and some combos seem so fast that you have to just mash and pray you hit it.
