I took my time and did all the side quests and leveled up.
Ans honestly a little bit of both, I try to get as much done as I can before moving on.
Now well into NG+
Took me 17 hours doing it that way, but there was a lot more world to see, I did story relevant optional content but none of the minigames or end game challenge battles.
Even skipping over combat entirely, those 17 hours were amazing, the games story has still been on my mind for a solid 6 days after I finished it lol.
It was so good I almost want to do it again properly, and be significantly more thorough in exploring, I just struggle to care about the combat system because while it is turn based, you can just become invincible after you get used to timings, so it doesn't have the same thought process of trying to do normal turn based strategy.
Stuck on a boss? "dodge more" stumbled into an area with too high level enemies? "dodge more" so it does frustrate me and I can actually dodge and parry ok for the most part.
If you enjoy games like this for their world and story this is easily just one of the best, get it an experience it in any way that you're most comfortable with.
