Anyone else notice this?
Maelle is suppose to be 16 right???? then why does Gustave say that they only have 1 year left to live and she has only have 9 years left till her Gommage? im not mathing wrong here 9 + 16 is only 25.... the next number being painted is only 32... right...RIGHT!!!

Because the Monolith number counts down each year while she simultaneously grows older, until the two eventually meet in the middle ^^

In 2 years: Maelle will be 18 - paintres paints 31
In 3 years: Maelle will be 19 - paintres paints 30
In 4 years: Maelle will be 20 - paintres paints 29
In 5 years: Maelle will be 21 - paintres paints 28
In 6 years: Maelle will be 22 - paintres paints 27
In 7 years: Maelle will be 23 - paintres paints 26
In 8 years: Maelle will be 24 - paintres paints 25

As people explained to you. The countdown does not stop because Maelle gets older. Those two things happen both at the same time.. :D

Yeah to account for age going up every year while the painting numbers go down. So everyone actually loses 2 years every year
