nerf simon
this is an absolute annihilator of nerves, time and desire to win thing. It should not exist in the form in which it exists. It is not killed without guides or abuses - this is absolutely abnormal.

Guys, all I want to say is that you can't argue with the fact that the boss is killed in a narrow way, and the build is forced. It's impossible to argue with that. Many thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts on the balance.

I think a fair trade for nerfing Stendhal and Gommage would be to give the player a checkpoint right as the phase 2 fight starts. Also greatly shorten the duration spent on the game over screen.

The most annoying aspect of the fight is having to redo the first phase when you really want to practice the 2nd and 3rd phase.

Save yourself the effort. Simon is not going to get changed because people aren't up to the challenge.

I'm not going to pretend for one moment that I properly fought him. I'm sure I'll suffer for that in NG+ or if I start again from the beginning.

he is supposed to be challenging, the fact that he can be 2 shot with certain build is already enough and king of disappointing xD
tho its funny that apart from having skill that changes your hp to 1 he can also steal your shields as free turn if you have any :)

there can be no talk of any challenge if the boss can be killed ONLY with a SPECIFIC abuse or build. If the game requires you to perfectly parry the hardest moveset in the game - that's the game's problem. It's superhuman and requires superhuman effort, which a grown mature person (at least due to the REST OF LIFE) would not want to put in. I thought that the artist and Clea were the magnum opus of the "challenge" in this game, but dude................

I want to beat him with parry only solo (duo bcs of his phase) and I did short attempt yesterday and managed to end up in middle of phase 2 so with some more practice it wont be extremely hard
tho beating him with parry only without getting hit is different matter :)

You are the perfect example of why some people just post "git gud".

Simon is supposed to be the ultimate challenge in this game. Master the game mechanics, learn his patterns, parry and dodge. Or use guides for a one-shot build and stop whining.

It's actually a lot more viable to tank hits from Simon than people act like it is. I deliberately tried fighting him without one shotting him in my expert difficulty no dodging/parry playthrough (I intentionally left my weapons at level 20 to reduce my damage output), and I could tank him without too much trouble - granted, my build was pretty optimized for surviving because I'd spent the entire game playing this way pretty much and I was used to it already, and he wasn't a particularly unusual fight for me.

I did end up skipping the part of the fight where he removes the first party from the fight because I didn't really want to deal with leveling up my other characters (.. which kind of goes to show just how ridiculously easy it is to burst down bosses - I was using a tanking build with only level 20 weapons and I could still remove most of his health in a single attack), but I spent most of the fight just face tanking hits and getting away with it.

I watched a youtube video and i am glad i didnt go through with the fight. It is absurd.
You dont need to abuse anything, you have plenty of ways to beat him. There is a reason he's in the abyss.

It's actually fun when you get the timing right for your parries. Super satisfying to counter that lightspeed attack.
I knew this was going to happen...

I am hardly a meta gamer and certainly not an elite when it comes to skills. I can dodge well enough, but parry...

Nerfs should only be where the game is clearly busted.. so just no. Now granted I haven't fought Simon yet but people have beaten him. You have options: drop the difficulty, mod, learn some builds etc.
The whole point of a super boss is to expect complete mastery of the game from players. If anything it's too easy as it is because of how the game lets you stack damage. If I don't run the build that one shots him I can still kill him without having to dodge any attacks because fights can be brute forced with insane damage.

I don't understand why you would want to the fight to be easy it's literally the final challenge in the game.

They should patch the fight and soft lock his HP at 1/3 to ensure his 3rd phase properly triggers and cannot be skipped by Maelle.

That would stop people from using Maelle to cheese the fight, at least to some degree.

If you rely on one-shot Maelle to beat him, then why not just set the game to easy at that point?

Honestly, if anything needs nerfs, it's Stendhal and Gommage. Both are extremely broken moves whose damage ceilings are way too high. Stendhal has self-debuffs, but they are irrelevant when Maelle just instantly annihilates anything and everything.
