Are the Gestrals a Meta- Commentary on Gamer- Culture/Psychology?

Think about it:
- They love fighting and finding cool loot they can profit off of.
- They know memes
- They build Minigames that are basically "Rage- Games"

very early on i got the vibe that they are kind of a stand- in for the kind of player that is into RPGs or specifically JRPGS.

Maybe even they are a stand-in for the player and the developers both.
