Penalty Of Death
I like to enter battles and try lots of different things. Even if I know that there are better options I like experimenting.

One of my dislikes with many modern games is the save system and having auto saves at poor placement. IMO this stifles experimentation and hinders you from really "stretching" gameplay. I could spend an hour fighting a single enemy just to try out all the different gear and options to see what works best for me and what I enjoy the most.

I have not been able to find out if there is any penalty for this experimentation in this game. Is there any cost to dying 20 times on the same enemy because you wanted to fight him when you were clearly underleveled to do so. I learn as much from dying as I do winning.

Any incite to what costs or penalties are associated with dying will be greatly appreciated.

The cost is time. Nothing else.
Your time. I do wish the game has a retry built in option for battles though as a QOL.
you dont loss any thing other than your time? you can just pretty much play around and memorize all the enemy combos and become a parry master LUL thats how i felt with the hardest bosses just keep trying and once you get timing down you can pretty much parry everything the boss trows at you.

Most issue for player is they are impatient and want to kill the boss in 1 fight.

Its designed to quickly get back into the fight. Fast fights, fast deaths, fast retries, for better or worse it is all built around learning the fights like a 'dark souls' instead of the more traditional turn based.
Change a piece of wardrobe before the fight. This will trigger an autosave if you haven't already saved in the last 5 seconds.

This is key if you're going to try something way above your level that will require lots of attempts. It's such a basic workaround that I hope the devs just add a "Quicksave" option to the menu so it's not so clunky.

You can just switch to another weapon and then back to yours, and the game will auto-save once you exit the menu. Doesn't work on the overworld map though, you'll have to camp instead.

The game auto saves ALL THE TIME. Pretty much anytime you fight a battle or pick up an item.

So the only time lost is running back around the corner from your last item/battle.

It’s quite forgiving.
