The parry timing was way too inconsistent for me.
Tutorial, second fight with Maelle. Not even the decency to let me try again without me reopening the game or loading a save checkpoint before I die. Meanwhile I'm doing chip damage. Not even the chance to try and learn the dodge/parry. Which I'm confused overall why there's both when parry doesn't work well against multi part attacks, and the timing between them seems near identical. All the while it seems inconsistent in its responsiveness. Only sometimes registering that I did indeed, press one of these buttons. It's just entirely too game breaking for me for a game I was heavily invested in the story from square one.

You can retry the duel just by talking to her, no loading needed.

You just have to learn how this particular game works.
It's consistent if your FPS is consistent. If there's any lag or judders? Then forget about it. At the end of the day humans are not consistent and will miss the parry window.

I failed the first duels at the start because in all honesty i hate parrying. Now I am I am confronting the paintress and I am parrying things I would NEVER have dreamed of. I almost sent the game back first day, I am glad i didn't. This game is like playing a musical instrument and the timing is in the sound affects and music, You will totally get it and once you do you will enjoy it.

1. Did you even try talking to her again before resorting to alt-F4?

2. Fairly sure the game tells you in those tutorials that are teaching you these mechanics that dodge has a more lenient window but parry allows counterattacks.

3. You've played for 90 minutes and your first instinct was to complain on the discussion forum when you couldn't beat the tutorial. It sounds very much like you will not enjoy this game's combat system at all, so you might want to just refund it now.

Respect. The more you play the game the more your brain gets wired into successfully parrying. For some people they hear a sound, some people with visual, others with pure instinct. It works for anyone other than the ones refusing to play the game.
