Where would you take a sequel after either ending? (Spoilers)
Verso: Time has passed, the family has eventually been able to make peace. But one day another terrible event happens (perhaps Maelle is the only survivor. Who knows what those pesky Writers are up to.) Until this moment she had completely given up on painting, but it suddenly becomes a necessity. Finding some lingering remnants of Verso's own painting, Maelle creates a new painting of her own and infuses the remnants into it, birthing a completely new world. And it just so happens to have Lune, Sciel, and however many others within it. They marvel at her maturing, bringing her around their age.

Alternatively, the Writers or someone with ulterior motives sneak in and deep dive into a painting for some reason, and Maelle is the only one around to go in after them.

Maelle: A bit trickier, but eventually she either dies from old age within Lumiere, or her real body gets too fatigued where it basically forces her out of the painting. She can't die entirely otherwise there wouldn't be much sequel potential (though perhaps Clea becomes our protagonist). Then the other issue is that everyone else that we loved within the painting grows old, so entirely new characters are gonna be needed all over.

Hard to really come up with a direct sequel related to Maelle's ending.

There are alot of different places they take the story / lore. I especially want to know more about the painters and writers. The game gave me some Myth vibes because IRC in that series the people had the ability to create new worlds.
What ever they have planned i hope they can cook .. because i do want to see more.
I'd take the sequel somewhere else entirely and wouldn't focus it around any of the currently existing characters. Make it about the writers. Let us see their motivations and what this "war" is actually about. Humanize them instead of just trying to show them as some evil guild out murdering painters or whatever it is that they're doing.

And while we're at it, make a third game after that where it's all about the actual conflict between the guilds, ultimately ending the trilogy.
I mean you can easily make a sequel after either ending, the only real difference is whether Alicia is in it. Even then it's easy to retcon the Maelle ending as her family going back in and forcing her out.

More likely though I think a sequel probably wouldn't revolve around the Dessendre family unless it was a prequel.
