YES!

As a fellow LoD fan, this game makes me very happy!

I guess I need to finally play Legend of Dragoon. There's a PC decompilation now, too.

I really don't get the legend of dragoon comparisons. there are no attacks in the game that work like additions. legend of dragoon had no skill trees, no weapon skills or leveling system, no active defense system etc.

clair obscur has no transformation system, or mash button to use magic items. or enemy actions during your attacks that you have to look out for

the literal only comparison point is that attacking has qtes of some kind.

at that point it has as much in common with legend of dragoon as super mario rpg
Is one of the games I have compared it to. Often said it is like Dark Souls + Persona + Nier Automata + LoD.

Or something like that lol

The addition system is an obvious parallel to how attack timing works in Expedition 33. The Legend of Dragoon also has a counter system.

Three party active turn based combat systems aren't exactly ubiquitous.

They share other parallels in story beats, party composition and enemy design.

have you played legend of dragoon? I have. many times. there are maybe 2 attacks in the whole of clair obscure that do nothing if you miss the qtes and they definitely arn't lined up with the timing of the attacks most of the time. legend of dragoon does not have an active defense system idk why you think that. what it does have is sometimes while you are doing additions you will get red prompt that must be done with a different button in order to continue the addition and if you fail it you take damage and fail the addition. clair obscur has nothing like that. yeah 3 party combat systems are super super common so that's not a comparison point. most final fantasies, dragon quest, and even mario rpg all have 3 character parties.

parallells in story beats? what the black monster that comes every 108 years that lives on in legend beacause no one is around to remember it is similar to a yearly cleansing? I don't recall clair obscur revolving around a hidden race of human-like pretenders trying to bring about the end of mankind due to the whims of a progenitor king who is playing his own game trying to reset everything for instance.

what enemy looks like it comes out of legend of dragoon in clair obscur or vice versa? there are almost no similarities between legend of dragoon's grounded enemies and cliche rpg tropes with an occasional smattering of grey bioweapon that looks anything like clair obscur's obsession with the twisting of a humanoid form for almost all of its enemies.

Idk why this person thought it was a player parry system. They obviously didn't play it. The only parry was, as you explained, for the enemy to use. I have a feeling this person read a wiki and didn't understand it.

I was also coming here to fight the fight, but you beat me to it. As much as I want a legend of dragoon type game, nothing has really been that game.

severed chain and its really good. i think their latest version will allow and add 4K custom textures. funny thing is originally the project was a just a retexture project for retro arch to bring in HD and UHD textures then it evolved into a full blown recompliation effort which is a million times better
I immediately thought of Legend Of Dragoon, maybe this will breath some life into that franchise.
I only wish that the manual inputs were more crucial for combat.....you never get more then two prompts afaik and messing up doesn't stop the attack like it did in LoD.

it wont not in the official sense but it might ring focus to the modding community of that game

It doesn't stop the overall attack but it does weaken and shorten some.
Sort of in the sense that there's an active element to the turn based combat.

The QTEs are not as engaging or challenging as additions in LoD were. On the other hand it adds a parry system which means you have active engagement on enemy turns too.

Wait What? Oh ♥♥♥♥ here we go again.

I think I've beaten LoD 20 times over at this point. This gives me yet another reason.

Now I just need to decide whether I want to go with Dart/Shana/Meru, Dart/Haschel/Meru or Dart/Haschel/Shana

Edit:

Holy shit I just read the page and saw that Haschel, Meru, Shana is possible in this version.
