Metaphor ReFantazio
- Most Dragon Quest games. I'd highly recommend DRAGON QUEST XI S Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.
- Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch™ Remastered, though I have not really spent too much time on this, since I have too many backlogs. Second game is super action oriented, as well it is super sandboxy.
- Fairy Fencer F Advent Dark Force (this version specifically, since there are two versions), I like this one not sure if that's your cup of tea.
- Siralim Ultimate is pretty fun, at least for me. Though, not really JRPG, but an RPG nonetheless.
- Epic Battle Fantasy 4 or 5.
No idea if you'll like any of my suggestions LMAO! I have other JRPGs on my backlog, though I can't really recommend it, since I have not spent time with em.
I know you didn't ask, but outside of the Steam ecosystem, Paper Mario and Super Mario RPG have timing-based button presses during turn-based combat. Honkai Star Rail is also a good free JRPG, it's gacha, but extremely generous and has a good story -- so far
a first time jrpg player shouldn't jump into Metaphor/Persona, the game is built on time gating mechanics that are pretty grating for anyone that doesn't specifically want that type of play style. I've played every JRPG under the sun save for persona, and when I jumped into metaphor it was very off putting. I got to basically the end, but couldn't be bothered to finish it.
Lost odyssey was never available on PC but you can emulate it on Xenia as it was a 360 exclusive, or digitally on XSX/XSS - its not impossible to find a legit copy but you will have a rough time. If you are going to go through all that trouble, then add Blue Dragon to the list too. Both are Mistwalker games
Edit: Just looked and you can get a copy easy as I guess its not as popular it it once was at this time. Its weird how the market works sometimes
great series if you can get into it, but it's a mess figuring out a starting point and becomes incredibly expensive unless you dive in during a sale
Given that Trails in the Sky 1st chapter remake is coming out soon id just wait
